Tellun is an elk Great Beast and the leader of the Great Beasts. In the second series, he is summoned as a spirit animal by a boy named Anda.

Overview[]

Tellun is an elk and the most powerful Great Beast. The other Great Beasts, as well as the people and creatures of Erdas, hold tremendous respect for him. He imprisoned Kovo the Ape and Gerathon the Serpent for their crimes at the end of the First Devourer War. Tellun is gold, silver, and white and his eyes were described to be multiple colors, “like looking into the soul of the land itself.”[1] He is also the largest Great Beast. Wilco is said to be bigger.

Essix’s Opinion[]

“Tellun, I respect you, but I do not understand you. I fear you are too distant.”

–Essix to Tellun in Tales of the Great Beasts[2]

Talisman[]

Main article: The Platinum Elk

The Platinum Elk: It grants freedom from the Bile without breaking the bond and may be able to cancel out another talisman’s powers. It also has influence over the elements and communication with animals.

The Evertree[]

Tellun appears in Conor’s dream in the first chapter (later it was revealed to have been a fake dream sent by Kovo). Later in the book, when Kovo was freed by the Conquerors, Tellun appeared and gave the Four his talisman and a ride to Nilo, home of The Evertree. When they get there, Kovo asks Tellun for his talisman. Tellun refuses and rams himself into the Evertree, sacrificing himself to protect others from his power.

Immortal Guardians[]

Tellun is summoned by an Amayan boy named Anda. They seem to have a very strong bond, and Tellun even lets Anda ride on his back. However, Zerif uses the Wyrm to possess and capture Tellun, severing the bond between the elk and the boy.

Broken Ground[]

Tellun was captured by Zerif. Anda’s mood has shifted completely. He is less enthusiastic and energetic due to his bond with Tellun being severed.

The Burning Tide[]

At the end, Anda and Tellun are mentioned to have reunited.

Tales of the Great Beasts[]

Tellun attends and contributes to the Grand Council called by Essix. Tellun takes a neutral stance on whether the other Great Beasts should intervene in the First Devourer War. When Uraza suggests the Great Beasts kill Kovo and Gerathon, Tellun becomes upset, stating, “No matter our decision, I will not condone the slaying of a Great Beast!” After the council is concluded and Essix lays with her eyes shut in a beaten state. Tellun tells her that she has “served Erdas well she will do again”.

Relationships[]

Other Great Beasts[]

Tellun is the leader of the Great Beasts, as the elk being the most powerful. The Great Beasts greatly respect Tellun and his decisions, including Kovo and Gerathon. Tellun respects the Four Fallen a lot and apologizes for not standing with them in the First Devourer War.

Anda[]

Anda and Tellun have a very close bond despite only being bonded for a short time. They seemed to be the perfect match, and Tellun even let Anda ride on his back in Immortal Guardians. Anda tells Abeke that “I just think of him as my elk. And I’m his boy.” This is somewhat similar to what Conor said in Hunted to Lord MacDonnell: “Briggan is not really mine, my lord. If anything, I suppose I’m his.”

Trivia[]

  • Tellun’s name is pronounced as “tel-oon”.[3]
  • On a quest in Amaya, Gavi finds a parcel of golden barley, which he claims to have been grown by the magic of Tellun.[4]
  • “By Tellun’s antlers” is a saying in the game.
  • In the game and the books, there is a material called "tellunnum", likely named after Tellun.
