Zap is Xue's spirit animal. He is a jumping mouse who appears in Blood Ties. He is small and white.

When Meilin asked Xue if she was one of the Marked, Xue smiled and released Zap, then revealing his name by calling his name. Xue left Meilin to find General Teng in the Great Bamboo Maze. Later Zap appeared when Xue and Meilin were chatting in the Tergesh field waiting on the rest of the group to return with the cure for Rollan’s Sunset Death. Meilin had admitted she previously thought that only big fierce spirit animals were only any good, but Xue had explained to her that no matter what the size or strength, a spirit animal is a great partner for life.
